Position Title: Member Service Representative
Department: Member Services Reports To: Office Manager / CFO
Position Summary
The Member Service Representative (MSR) serves as the primary point of contact between the cooperative and its members. This position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service by handling inquiries, processing payments, resolving service issues, and providing information about cooperative programs, policies, and services. The MSR helps build and maintain strong member relationships in alignment with the cooperative’s mission of providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric service.
Key Responsibilities
– Respond to member inquiries in person, by phone, and electronically with professionalism and courtesy.
– Process payments, service requests, new service applications, disconnects, reconnects, and account updates.
– Process capital credit retirements, research deceased members to find heirs for patronage capital.
– Explain billing statements, rates, fees, and payment options.
– Assist members with outage reporting, service restoration updates, and general electric service questions.
– Promote cooperative programs such as energy efficiency, paperless billing, budget billing, and automatic payment options.
– Resolve member concerns promptly or escalate issues when necessary.
– Accurately enter, maintain, and update member account information in the cooperative’s information system.
– Assist with collection efforts, payment arrangements, and disconnection processes in compliance with cooperative policies.
– Support special projects, community outreach, and cooperative events as assigned.
– Maintain confidentiality of member records and adhere to all cooperative policies and procedures.
Qualifications
– High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in business, communications, or related field preferred.
– Prior experience in customer service, call center, or utility service preferred.
– Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
– Proficiency with computers and standard office software; experience with customer information systems a plus.
– Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and remain calm in high-pressure situations.
– Commitment to teamwork, cooperative principles, and exceptional member service.
